22/05/2026.- The Sources for Nature project held its first thematic webinar, bringing together participating companies, national associations and biodiversity experts to exchange practical experiences and approaches to biodiversity action in the natural mineral water sector.
Organised by Natural Mineral Waters Europe in collaboration with International Union for Conservation of Nature, the session focused on the first step of the NMWE-IUCN recommendations on biodiversity in natural mineral waters: the assessment of basin health and the identification of biodiversity impacts and dependencies.
The webinar explored how companies and associations can better understand biodiversity-related risks and opportunities within their catchments, while also preparing for evolving sustainability and reporting requirements. Discussions covered practical aspects of double materiality assessments, the use of rapid biodiversity screening tools such as IBAT, and approaches to stakeholder engagement and partnerships at catchment level.
Participants also exchanged experiences on baseline biodiversity assessments, prioritisation of risks and actions, and the importance of collaboration between companies, associations and local stakeholders to support long-term freshwater ecosystem resilience.
The session marked the beginning of a broader series of exchanges and learning activities under the Sources for Nature project, which aims to implement the biodiversity recommendations across the European natural mineral water sector through peer learning, knowledge sharing and collective action.
